Therapeutic Integrative Aftercare
Are you looking for an affordable integrative therapeutic aftercare program in the US?

At Root Recovery, our treatment philosophy hinges on the principles set forth by the Harm Reduction model, which "meets people where they are at". It is our mission to introduce you to a positive, holistic aftercare model that enables you to live a healthier, more rewarding way of life. Our program offers tools to help you implement a new lifestyle that fulfills your spiritual, physical, social, creative, and emotional needs.

Some of these tools include integration and EMDR trauma therapy, healthy diet and exercise, regular meditation practice, integral practices that are designed to foster emotional and relational growth, and non-12 step recovery meetings.

Intensive EMDR therapy (to treat underlying root causes of addiction) and SMART Recovery are the cornerstones of Root Recovery Aftercare and Integration home.

At Root Recovery, we understand the importance of taking advantage of the first few months after plant-medicine assisted detox. It's vitally imortant to utilize this window of time to develop new patterns and to help you integrate your medicinal experience into a new healthy way of life.

Our recovery home is located 10 miles west of downtown Austin in a secluded lake community. The home can accomodate 1-4 aftercare residents at a time.

Some wonderful natural areas we like to visit around Austin include Barton Springs, Lake Austin, Hamilton Pool Preserve, Krauss Springs, The Blue Hole, Enchanted Rock, the vast greenbelt which spans the length of Austin and offers a vast array of hiking/biking trails and secluded water holes.

We also offer rates that are designed to make therapeutic aftercare accessible. We are happy to send you additional details and to chat with you on the phone or Skype. Please contact us for details at: [email protected]
Living an Active, Purpose-filled Life
"The body keeps the score" ~ Bessel Van der Kolk

The corner stone of our philosphy at Root Recovery is to replace old behavioral patterns that reinforce addiction with new behaviors that connect one to life. By engaging with nature and addressing trauma, one can truly heal the root of addiction, and from this place... new and healthy patterns can form.

While it's important to change thinking patterns, one must first address the damage done to the body. A healthy vibrant physical being is vital to healing one's connection to the environment. Addiction degrades both the body and the mind, and by first healing the physical body, the foundation is formed to support healing of the emotional and cognitive bodies as well.

We take advantage of Austin area natural resources and have fun. While we do talk about addiction, the real focus is on connection- to both other people and the environment- and also to oneself. Our program emphasizes developing a sense of responsible autonomy through EMDR therapy, SMART recovery skills, communication skills that support healthier relationships, and most importantly- learning to genuinely smile, laugh and make friends with life.

EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is an eight-phase treatment originally developed to treat PTSD, which comprehensively identifies and addresses experiences that have overwhelmed the brain’s natural resilience or coping capacity and have thereby generated traumatic symptoms and/or harmful coping strategies (flashbacks, anxiety, insomnia and possible harmful attempts to address these symptoms, such as isolating behavior and self-medication with drugs and alcohol.). Through EMDR therapy, patients are able to reprocess traumatic information until it is no longer psychologically disruptive, which when done with skill and care, can treat the underlying psychological factors in addiction.

EMDR Therapy takes preparation that is both trauma-informed and addiction-informed. EMDR is most effective when used as part of a comprehensive plan for treating addiction that must also include appropriate social supports and practicing new lifestyle skills, which we provide at Root Recovery.
SMART Recovery
SMART Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addiction (substances or activities). Our efforts are based on scientific knowledge and evolve as scientific knowledge evolves.

The 4-Point Program offers specific tools and techniques for each of the program points:

Point 1: Building and Maintaining Motivation
Point 2: Coping with Urges
Point 3: Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
Point 4: Living a Balanced Life

At Root Recovery, we hold both in-house SMART meetings and we attend an excellent meeting in the community.
Brain Sensing EEG (Neurofeedback) Training
At Root Recovery, we employ EEG technology that can give you real-time feedback on what’s happening in your brain while you meditate. It provides motivational challenges and rewards to encourage you to build a regular practice.

In the short-term, meditation has been shown to trigger the natural relaxation response – a state of deep rest that changes the physiological and emotional responses to stress. Meditation has been scientifically shown to reduce symptoms associated with stress, depression and anxiety, which in turn support long term sobriety.
Lindsey White-Slater, M.Ed., LPC
Hi, my name is Lindsey and my orientation is to meet you where you are at by helping you to define your own desired aftercare/recovery goals and provide the expertise and support to help you achieve it. My therapeutic modalities (in addition to an overall trauma informed/harm-reduction orientation) are EMDR, DBT, and neuro-feedback. I have extensive experience in working with addiction and trauma.

I first learned about the African healing root in 2009, and 2011 engaged in my own psycho-spiritual journey and prescription medication tapering support under the care of a trusted provider in Mexico. I have since offered integrative support and therapeutic aftercare to those who have been through their own personal journey, both for addiction interruption and psycho-spiritual purposes.

I first became licensed in psychotherapy in 2004 and have since worked with individual's, couples, and families in the arena of private practice, community based treatment, detox, and residential treatment. Seeing the flaws in the mental health and substance abuse system has led me to find alternative integral approaches and therapies that truly heal, rather than simply diagnose and treat symptoms. Plant medicine has been my biggest area of alternative treatment advocacy, as it helped me through the transition off of anti-seizure prescription to a medication free life.

In addition to my long standing licensure, I am currently enrolled in the California Institute of Integral Studies certificate program in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy and Research and will graduate in December of this year (2018). However, I do NOT provide plant medicine or any other similiar substances to my clients. I provide residential integration therapy AFTER an individual's journey/detox in another country.

I am also a KRI certified Kundalini Yoga instructor. This type of yoga is an ideal support in the recovery process due to its emphasis on daily commitment to practice (even if for only 3 minutes), as well as its holistic approach to living. There are many gifts embedded in this wonderful tradition and it's my passion to share them with others on their recovery path.

Ray Rodriguez
I am recovered from a 20 year opiate addiction. I am very experienced in dealing with the trauma that comes with addiction and understand the importance of the first few months after detox.

What shifted things for me was learning to love myself through self care and finding passion for life. I found that being clean isn't enough, but that I had to find ways to channel my creativity and passion through cross fit, yoga, change in diet, getting outdoors, and opening my mind to new social and spiritual support.

Plant medicine has been a key to my spiritual evolution. I am now in a place of giving back what has been given to me. I understand the void feeling that is so often at the core of addiction and I would like to reassure you there is hope. Today my life is filled with joy, happiness, and balance. I learned how to love others... but most importantly how to love my self. I am now able to give back and am excited to step alongside others in their path of recovery.
